In this position you would be responsible for activities in hazardous and non-hazardous materials management, environmental protection, and emergency response throughout the UTHealth campus. Primary duties will include collection, treatment, storage, and disposal of all hazardous waste streams (chemical, biological, facility and radioactive) generated from clinical and research studies; making hazardous waste determinations; and ensuring proper disposal of regulated wastes. IDEAL CANDIDATE: Must be customer service oriented and have valid Texas Drivers License. Preparation and presentation of written and oral reports using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is considered an essential skill. Additional Summary Specific to Job POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: - Knowledge of basic chemistry in order to bulk flammables, corrosives, and liquid poisons is essential; - Monitor environmental releases campus wide and help to establish and maintain effective environmental management system programs, and assist with pollution prevention projects and storm water pollution prevention; - Perform environmental facility audits, inspect equipment released through public auction, assist with water sampling and air pollution control programs, and maintain necessary registrations for required facilities or equipment. - Conduct training for topics related to environmental protection. DOT hazardous materials training and CHMM certification preferred Organizational Requirements Bachelor's degree in basic or applied science or a related field or equivalent experience in lieu of education with a minimum of one year experience in radiation safety, chemistry, biological, health and/or occupational safety. Preferred certification depending on the work assignments: Board Certification as a Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
