Role synopsis The role of an Industrial Hygienist is to provide guidance to Operations staff, HSE Managers and the Health & Safety (H&S) Field Coordinators regarding industrial hygiene issues and to conduct workplace exposure assessments. The assessments will be utilized to evaluate and recommend controls for health & safety exposure risks.
Key accountabilities . Provide technical expertise and functional guidance to Team Leaders, Safety Coordinators, Environmental Coordinators, Project Managers, and Business Unit (BU) Management on emerging H&S regulations, BP requirements, and expectations on occupational hygiene issues and their potential impact on the business.
. Oversee the process of health risk assessment, prioritization, and control at assigned sites.
. Conduct site assessments for compliance with federal and applicable local regulations.
. Provide direction in the planning and execution of workplace exposure assessments to evaluate health and safety exposure risks and work with Operations in recommending practical controls with corrective action options.
. Develop or oversee development of policies and codes of practices and coordinate Industrial Hygiene (IH) aspects of BP's Operational Management System implementation.
. Conduct risk assessments and provide IH support to sites at various stages of projects, in modification of facilities, in turn-around/shut down mode, and for routine or non-routine activities.
. Manage the input of IH sampling data into BP's computer database and compile, interpret and report IH data and track IH recommendations to closure.
. Train HSSE personnel (employees and contractors) on IH monitoring techniques, exposure controls, and assist HSE staff development.
. Support Product Stewardship in reviewing and updating BP product Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
. Assist in IH and Safety incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
. Provide IH support for Emergency Response Incident Management and the Business Support Team.
. Participate in IH Committees, BP Networks (Group IH), and interact with Segment IH and health professionals.
Essential Education REQUIRED:
. Bachelor's of Science degree in industrial hygiene; science; engineering; occupational health, environmental, or safety discipline.
Essential experience and job requirements . Two years experience or greater in industrial hygiene field.
. Proven experience demonstrating verbal and written communication skills.
. Strong writing skills are necessary for candidates, as they have to frequently prepare reports/summaries and presentations.
. Experience demonstrating an ability to build productive and credible relationships, particularly within BU teams, management, and with regulatory agencies.
. Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently in order to perform the essential job functions.
. Experience in being Subject Matter Expert in regulatory IH areas in the oil and gas industry.
Desirable criteria & qualifications DESIRED:
. A minimum of 3 years of experience in oil and gas process operations.
. Master's of Science or Public Health degree in industrial hygiene; science; engineering; occupational health, environmental, or safety discipline.
. American Board of industrial hygiene (ABIH) Certified Industrial Hygienist or equivalent.
. Demonstrated experience in ventilation and/or noise engineering.
. Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis of IH exposure data.
. Additional certification in safety or environmental.
. Additional certification as a Professional Engineer.
