Job Description
The DCS/Process Control Engineer maintains and/or improves Texas City site DCS and PLC control and interlock systems, operator MMI systems, and PI Historian systems in accordance with site standards and procedures to ensure safe operation, maximize equipment reliability and maximize operations profitability.


Job Responsibilities

· Has shared responsibility for all process control and interlock systems' (software and hardware) operations, maintenance, upgrades, improvements, and troubleshooting
· Over time must be able develop / demonstrate proficiency in some / all existing and future site applications. These currently include:
o Foxboro I/A (Invensys) DCS hardware and Archestra with Infusion configuration software,
o Fisher Provox Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Envox configuration software
o Siemens (Moore APACS) DCS hardware and 4-Mation configuration software,
o AAdvance SIS PLCs and Workbench configuration software
o Modicon PLCs and ProworX NXT configuration software
o Phoenix Contact PLCs and PCWorks configuration software
o GE Fanuc PLC and Proficy Machine Edition configuration software
o Modicon Modbus and Provox CHIP communications systems,
o Wonderware Intouch and Vision HMI hardware and software,
o OSIsoft PI historian servers and Process Book historian client software,
o Tips Logmate alarm/event historian software.
o Perfecter Advanced process control (APC) software
· Is expected to evaluate process dynamics and then develop process control improvements which can be implemented on the DCS'S, PLC'S, and APCs in order to improve the process and to be able to implement and commission these improved control strategies
· Has responsibility for project team development including conceptual design, alternative review, costs, benefits, risks & mitigations, resources, plant testing, construction interface, commissioning, training, and documentation
· Is expected to be able to serve in a support role for capital projects involving implementation of new or modification of existing control strategies
· Participates in unit reviews, management of changes, HAZOP and root cause failure analysis as needed.
· Assist manufacturing and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting technical or process problems
· Troubleshoots problems, design, configuration, installation, commissioning, and documentation of all DCS & PLC additions and changes throughout the plant as well as Historian (PI) installation, configuration, and client connectivity.
· Practices and promotes company safety policies and procedures.
· . Stays abreast of the latest automation & advanced control technologies and provides innovative solutions to optimize both the process and the control systems.
· Develop scope for vendor technical support contracts for controls and interlock hardware and software.


Job Qualifications/Skills
* Must be able to execute routine duties which may include:
o Monitor performance of applications and perform preventive and reactive maintenance as required.
o Schedule and perform upgrades to the software and hardware on process computers
o Perform DCS, PLC, MMI, and PI configuration backups on all systems.
o Rotate on-call responsibilities with others on staff
o Verify all documentation (drawings, procedures, etc.) correctly reflect the process configuration, address discrepancies and communicate corrections using MOC procedure
· Must work with and communicate effectively with members of Operations, Engineering and Maintenance.


Education: Bachelors of Science in engineering or engineering-related discipline is required.
Work Experience: Five to ten years of experience in instrumentation or control systems engineering with at least two years in designing new control strategies is preferred.
